Laboratory documentation guide
Research compound storage and documentation
Good records separate what the supplier states from what the receiving laboratory actually observed and controlled.
Record receipt before storage
Document the received date, container condition, label, batch identifier, and any temperature indicator or shipping exception. Preserve the original product documentation.
Follow the applicable source
Storage conditions should come from the product label, matched batch document, safety data, or another authorized source. Do not infer a condition from a different product or lot.
Maintain a handling log
- Storage location and monitored condition
- Date and time removed or returned
- Container openings and transfers
- Observed damage, contamination, or excursion
- Person responsible for each material event
Keep claims bounded
A storage log documents custody and conditions; it does not replace analytical testing or prove that a material retained every attribute over time.
Scope: Educational laboratory documentation only. Not medical, dosing, or human-use guidance.
